It was called the Island because it was surrounded by either railway, canal or the park, people used to say that you had to go over a bridge to get to Primrose Hill. You had the Bridge where the Pembroke Pub is (Chalk Farm Station), the bridge on Primrose Hill Road (the part of the road from Adelaide to King Henry's) and the bridge that takes you to London Zoo.
The paintings are still there but have a lot of graffitti on them
