We are The Poor Old Man of Europe again.
Inspired by the famous red Routemaster, the New Bus for London reinstates the much-loved hop on, hop off platform, and introduces a third door and a second staircase making it quicker and easier for passengers to board. With a sleek asymmetrical front window and a panel of glass wrapping around the entire bus the passenger will experience even more natural light and extended views of London. The countdown to the new bus is now on. A full-size mock-up of the bus, made by Wrightbus of Northern Ireland, arrived in London in November 2010 where it was officially unveiled by the Mayor. The prototype will arrive in London in November 2011 and the first five buses will enter passenger service in early 2012
Public talks at London Transport Museum planned 13th – 20th June will give visitors the opportunity to discover the inspiration behind the design of London’s newest icon, and the process and challenges of creating such a design. In the talk by one its key designers. Stuart Wood, of Heatherwick Studio, guests will discover more about creating London’s first specially commissioned bus in over 50 years.
